Paul's business commitments, however, moved their family from state to state every few years. Always their dreams moved with them. Some heartaches followed as well and demanded their full attention. It all began with Baby number 5; her name was Martha. The entire family fell in love with her. But, then it happened......How does an older mother get over the unexplained death of her six-month old baby daughter? Then, just a few years later, how can she understand the birth of her Down’s syndrome baby? Why would God do that? Why did it not make sense? God led her gently on to find the answers to some of these life changing events. Soon Miggy was sharing her heartfelt journey called Melissa Comes Home, followed by Melmark, the Home that Love Built. That book was soon fleshed out in the formation of a residential school for mentally and physically challenged young people, called Melmark. It is still thriving with over 200 residents on 80 acres of rolling countryside in Pennsylvania. When they began to look forward to retirement, however, a new cloud rose on the horizon. The dreaded Parkinson’s disease and the onset of Alzheimer’s were attacking her husband. How does Miggy keep her spiritual balance? After his death, why does she run to Africa? And why did she then come home after a brief six months? Another opportunity to share how God was her anchor through it all....the ups and downs. And now, in her early 90's, Miggy still is a trail blazer facing the challenges that living in a retirement community brings. Sometimes comical, and sometimes heartbreaking. And a new book is underway that pieces some refreshingly honest snippits of Miggy's life now IT’S NOT FOR SISSIES Keep your eyes open for it.
